Digital exclusion of migrant women induced by emerging technologies: a review of current studies and research agenda
Författare
Summary, in English
The aim of this paper is to shed light on the reasons found in the literature behind digital exclusion of migrant women and propose a new framework that can be used to further research this issue when considering emergent technologies. The literature was first reviewed to identify existing knowledge and to highlight any gaps in research. The review revealed that there is a lack of theoretical frameworks to explain digital exclusion of migrant women. While poorly designed social information systems are a clear cause of digital exclusion, a focus on theoretical frameworks such as digital divide and intersectionality may in themselves not be enough to fully explain the digital exclusion of migrant women when we consider new technologies. We suggest that further empirical work and new frameworks are necessary to investigate the root cause of digital exclusion of migrant women.
